In response to the volume of recent queries we've received about how the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdown is affecting insurance cover, we've compiled this set of frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Stock Insurance
Q - Am I covered for loss of income as a result of coronavirus and/or related diseases such as COVID-19?
Unfortunately, this is a new virus and COVID-19 is a new disease that emerged only recently. As such, insurers have confirmed that your policy will not cover it.
Q - In light of the current situation with markets being closed, can you cover my change of business activities?
We can ask your insurer to revisit your business activities in light of the ongoing crisis. This would be looked at on a case-by-case basis, as business activities can vary greatly.

Liability Insurance
Q - Can I suspend my Public Liability Policy due to COVID 19?
Unfortunately, your Public Liability insurance policy cannot be suspended during this period.
Van Insurance
Q - Can I use my vehicle in a voluntary capacity for the NHS?
If you are insured with Markerstudy:
Yes, we can confirm policies underwritten by Markerstudy will allow insured vehicles to be used in for voluntary purposes during the current pandemic.
If you are insured with RSA:
Yes, we can confirm policies underwritten by RSA will extend to cover any of the 4 categories of NHS volunteers below:
1. Community response volunteers: This role involves collecting shopping, medication or other essential supplies for someone who is self-isolating. The volunteer would also deliver these supplies to their home.
2. Patient transport volunteer: This position supports the NHS by providing transport to patients who are medically fit for discharge, and ensuring they are settled safely back in to their home.
3. NHS transport volunteer: This role involves transporting equipment, supplies and/or medication between NHS services and sites. It may also involve assisting pharmacies with medication delivery.
4. Check-in and chat volunteer: These volunteers will provide short-term telephone support to individuals who are at risk of loneliness as a consequence of self-isolation.
Q – My vehicle is declared SORN off the road, can I reduce the cover?
If you are insured with Markerstudy:
Yes, Markerstudy can offer laid-up cover but only subject to the following:
- The vehicle must be declared to DVLA as being off road via a ‘SORN’ and the vehicle must not be parked in a public place.

If you are insured with RSA:
Yes, RSA can offer laid-up cover but only subject to the following:
- The vehicle must be declared to DVLA as being off road via a ‘SORN’ via a ‘SORN’ and the vehicle must not be parked in a public place and must be stored on private ground so there is no third party exposure.
- RSA require proof that the vehicle is SORN.

Q - What happens if my policy is coming up for renewal?
If any of your policies are coming up for renewal, we are here to discuss potential variations to your policy coverage, such Laid-Up Fire & Theft Cover.

Q - Can you help me with the direct debit payments?
If you are currently paying for your insurance policies by monthly instalments through a finance provider, such as Close Premium Finance, and cash flow is a concern, then please talk to us. We may be able to negotiate payment holidays or reduced monthly payments through a variation of the loan agreement.
